Earthworms, like honeybees, are true friends of the Earth. The role they play in nature is to regenerate and improve soil by increasing the level of plant nutrients and biological activity. They make pathways lined with nutrients for roots to travel along, so new roots can feed as they grow. They aerate the soil and their tunnels allow rain water to sink in. Be kind to earthworms do much good including transforming rotting vegetable matter into healthy fertilizer.
